i will say that this coronavirus scare has definitely revealed that minimum-wage service workers are absolutely instrumental for society to function… all the hoity-toity business meetings can be cancelled, the NBA can be cancelled, public schools and colleges can be cancelled, government meetings can be cancelled, but the checkout line at the grocery store can’t be cancelled… in a perfect world i’d hope that this was a bellwether for better treatment of workers like me but i know we’ll just continue to get paid min wage with no rewards or thank-yous from the world during this time lolololol

Y’all have gotta bear in mind that while rent relief is absolutely important, so is mortgage relief. It’s not just a “what about the landlords?” thing; outside of the very largest cities, and especially in rural areas, it’s actually quite common for folks to own their primary residences even if they’re dirt poor – they just end up spending decades in crushing debt as a result. Like, “fuck the owning class” sounds good on paper, but not everybody who owns a house is functionally part of the owning class; a person with a shitty 1000-square-foot bungalow that hasn’t been renovated since 1977 and a thirty-year mortgage to show for it is not your enemy.
So Gamestop will probably want to fire me for this but fuck them. They are literally telling us to fight law enforcement and blatantly disregard the law to hit sales. Please signal boost and share on other sites. If they are gonna fire me then it might as well be worthwhile.
I too work for GameStop and would like you all to know they are treating us like shit. They haven’t sent us anything to be able to actually clean the store or keep our hands clean.
They want us to “display sysmptoms away from guests”. They also won’t put an end to trades (which have sky rocketed) when we have no way to clean inside systems or to disinfect disks. They even dropped Doom Eternal this morning without informing employees. (They tweeted it would be available the 19th but it already was supposed to have an early release anyway so no one knew)
They want us to clean Hugh touch surfaces twice a day but we’ve been so slammed we hardly make it out from behind the counters. And keep in mind, our hole ass store is high touch and we aren’t able to clean the game cases, display boxes or anything like that because there’s literally hundreds.
Corporate is leaving it up to store managers if they wanna close their stores or not. But the catch is they’ll get fired if they do. They don’t care about any of us. I literally had a guy in my line Tuesday who was coughing up a storm and his name badge said Detroit Metro Airport. So like, who knows what we are being forced to come into contact with and my SO and daughter are both high risk. If I come home with the virus I could lose my family.
A lot of employees are in the GameStop subreddit (r/GameStop) so if you really wanna be livid, I recommend checking it out. It’s FUCKED up. I have been trying to blow twitter up, if I get fired it’s for a good cause.

Tell em! Same at my store. They sent a email to customers and have a commercial saying how they are giving us supplies, then when I read our emails they told us to go buy some and they will reimburse us. Where am I supposed to find these sold out supplies!?
